Stretch Local with Ste Spandex, Trash-O-Rama & Abigail Ward 12/10/12

Our next Stretch Local features three of Manchester’s freshest DJing talents as we present Trash-O-Rama (Homoelectric / Bollox) and Ste Spandex (Wet Play). Alongside Stretch’s Abilgail Ward we anticipate DJ sets that fit the Stretch Local policy of in-the-moment musical eclecticism.

Trash-O-Rama is Manchester’s ‘dirty basement disco for Freaks, Fags, Feminists & their F***ed up friends’. DJ duo Polly Esther & Johnny Trash started TOR over 2 years ago as a continuation of past nights Danse Macabre and Are Friends Eclectic? to promote local DIY and queer bands and to provide a safe space for Manchesters creatures of the night to meet up, dance and be inspired! Since its inception as a band night TOR has won CityLife Best Alt Club 2011, held stages at 2 consecutive Sounds From The Other City and ran monthly nights at Retro Bar and Gullivers over its short lifetime.

More recently Polly and Johnny have stepped back from promoting monthly events to focus on their DJing – winning residencies at the institution that is Homoelectric and Bollox (CityLife’s Best Alt Club and Best Club 2012), guest DJing at pretty much every basement, loft or warehouse in the city and holding irregular all-night raves at Islington Mill under the Trouble at t’Mill moniker!

Musically Trash-O-Rama can`t be pinned to a genre – they play house, nu disco, soul, electro, hip hop, funk, punk and anything in between – you never know what to expect – and that is the ethos behind TOR – expect the unexpected!

Maverick DJ Ste Spandex promotes and spins at Wet Play. For those that reside under rocks… Wet Play is the social vortex that has established itself as one of Manchester’s most crucial underground happenings! Absorbing all that’s good from the depths of deep disco, bionic boogie and heady house, Ste Spandex and Wet Play’s sonic policy is set to stimulate! With releases on Ruf Kutz, and tracks forthcoming on Red Laser Records, Ste is also an accomplished producer in his own right. He also reads Sci-fi books.

Stretch’s Abigail Ward will be supplying our warm up soundtrack, so expect sultry soul, string things and knee-deep funk cuts.  Abigail is a veteran of Manchester’s record shops, having worked at Vinyl Exchange, Kingbee and Piccadilly Records. She DJs regularly across the city, holding residencies at Mint Lounge, Cornerhouse and Odd Bar. Abs also manages the fabulous resource that is Manchester District Music Archive. Now in its 10th year, MDMA is an online facility that ‘celebrates Greater Manchester music, protects its heritage and promotes awareness of its cultural importance’:
