Update on our house... We are here for our first c Update on our house... We are here for our first couple of nights to test the (lead pipe) water. Have removed the 40 year old Gold Block infused curtains + carpets and have taken as many nails out of the floorboards as possible. It’s a Crocs only rule for the kids! We have too many people to thank for the last couple of mad weeks… Lovely OT neighbours - old and new, friends from the school, and fellas from footy 🙏🙏 There’s a long way to go, but so far the process has been surreal, exciting and daunting. Nina and Ben are loving this new adventure. I’m just glad it’s August as there is no central heating! yet! Couldn’t resist stacking them for a photo. Missi Couldn’t resist stacking them for a photo. Mission control has now been fully dismantled. The top pair were my Dad’s. Richer Sound 1982. As kids we’d dance ‘round the living room with Kool & The Gang, MJ and Lionel pumping through them. At the same time, a pair of these 700s belonged to a teenage DJ who put a pair of Technics and a Revox through them. While a pair of the 727s worked in a BBC recording studio. Before A Level Geography lessons at school, my mates used to ask me to ask the teacher about Mission speakers again. I did on several occasions, the teacher would then waste half the lesson telling us how to wire them for the right sound and why buying British was best. So, I’ve put 10 years of weekly D&B BassDrive shows through them upstairs, and played many great albums to family and friends downstairs. Mission speakers have been with me for 40 years. They will come with us to our new home where they will continue to colour the music in our house. #mission #missionspeakers

Caravan ‘In the Land of Grey and Pink’ LP, 197 Caravan ‘In the Land of Grey and Pink’ LP, 1971. A long lost friend once made me a most fab mixtape. It had the song ‘Golf Girl’ on it. An eccentric, English, psychedelic, jazzy, funky tune, that tapped suitably into my Syd Barrett / Floyd unsensibilities of 25 years ago. Fast forward a quarter of a century and I found myself in a friend’s ‘Stay In Your Homes’ lockdown WhatsApp group. The group included several well known artists from the Manchester music scene. It’s been a welcome source of chit-chat and content. One Aldi whisky fuelled, deep, dark, tier 2 evening I dropped ‘Golf Girl’ in said group. A certain @badlydrawnboyofficial said that the whole album was great, recalling how he was introduced to it many moons ago. This album has always been on my record shop radar, on account of its Tolkien-like sleeve design. Last week I found this copy at Cob Records in Porthmadog, while on holiday at our Welsh cottage with the fam. I told my Mrs I’d pop in for a 10 minute sift, while the kids look at the Ffestiniog railway steam trains - standard, opportune practice of late. I only needed 10 to check through their ‘just arrived’ section. I honestly had this weird feeling that this album was there waiting for me. It was! Some things are just meant to be! I’m finally listening to this album in full, for the first time this Sunday morning. It’s tremendous!
